Investing in your mental health is a real decision — and it deserves real information. This page lays out what therapy at Mai Wellness costs, why it's priced the way it is, and what options are available if the standard rate creates a barrier. There are no hidden fees, no surprises, and no judgment about what you can or can't afford.

Sliding scale

A small number of sliding scale spots are available for clients who need a reduced rate to access care. If cost is a barrier, please reach out — availability is limited but the conversation is always welcome.

You are not paying for therapy.
You are paying for the right therapy.

There is a significant difference between a generalist therapist and one who has spent years building specialized expertise in a specific population. At Mai Wellness, every clinical decision — the modalities used, the way sessions are structured, the language chosen, the pacing of the work — is informed by deep, focused training in women's mental health, trauma, perinatal care, and neurodivergence.

Specialist care means you don't spend the first months of therapy explaining your context. It means your therapist already understands the particular shape of what you're carrying — the ways women internalize distress, the intersection of hormones and mood, the specific texture of postpartum identity loss, the neurodivergent experience that has never been properly named. That knowledge is the product of years of intentional training, certification, and clinical focus. It is what the rate reflects.

Therapy that actually fits costs more than therapy that doesn't. That is not a comfortable thing to say — but it is an honest one. And you deserve honesty about what you're investing in.

A word about insurance

Mai Wellness does not bill insurance directly. This is a deliberate choice — not a limitation. Insurance reimbursement structures place significant constraints on clinical care: they dictate session frequency, limit treatment length, require diagnostic labels that don't always serve the client, and create administrative burdens that pull focus away from the actual work.

Private pay allows treatment to be driven entirely by your clinical needs — not by what your plan covers, how many sessions your policy allows, or what a utilization reviewer decides is medically necessary. It also means your mental health information stays private, with no diagnoses submitted to insurance databases.

That said, cost is real and it matters. The options below exist because access to good care matters too.

Options that may help with cost

Private pay doesn't have to mean paying entirely out of pocket. These options are available to all clients and are worth exploring before assuming therapy is out of reach.

Superbill & out-of-network reimbursement

If you have out-of-network benefits, you may be able to recover a meaningful portion of the cost. Mai Wellness provides a superbill — an itemized receipt with the codes your insurance needs — so you can submit for reimbursement directly. Rates vary by plan but many clients recover 40-70% of session fees this way. Contact your insurance provider to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits before your first session.

HSA & FSA accounts

Therapy is typically an eligible expense for Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts. If you have either of these through your employer, they can often be used to cover session fees directly — making the out-of-pocket cost significantly more manageable. Check with your plan administrator to confirm eligibility.

Sliding scale availability

A limited number of reduced-rate spots are held for clients for whom the standard rate is a genuine barrier to access. If this applies to you, please reach out directly. Availability is limited and cannot be guaranteed, but the conversation is always welcome and always confidential.

Free resources

Psychoeducation materials, worksheets, and resources are provided at no cost to all clients as part of the therapeutic work. Access to information and tools should never be gated behind ability to pay — and at Mai Wellness, it isn't.

"Good therapy is an investment — in your wellbeing, your relationships, and the version of yourself you are working toward. That investment deserves to be made with clear eyes and full information."

If you have questions about rates, sliding scale availability, or how to use your out-of-network benefits, reach out before booking. There are no uncomfortable questions here — just honest answers.
